This one wasn't quite as good as Blood Bound or Iron Kissed, IMO. It was still excellent. A 4.5, I think. It just felt a bit inorganic and disorganized at moments.
What I love about Mercy is that I get where her decisions are coming from. This time she was a bit discombobulated -- understandably -- and it came through maybe a little too much. There were things that happened that went counter to the reality that had been set up.
Example with non-spoiler vagueness: If she has a panic attack about a specific thing, why wouldn't she have a panic attack about something even worse?
At those moments it felt contrived. Well written, but not fresh.
Nice to know that Mercy's mother and I agree, Adam is hot. Well, it's not just the two of us, but still...
It was good to see that story line move ahead. I like that PB didn't let herself get bogged down in some of the things other authors have. Forward movement = good storytelling. I wish more series authors understood that.
Definitely a good read. This series has just completely captivated me. I'm trying to hold off now (after my binge a week ago) so I'm not just plowing through the backlist. But I'll get there. No doubt about it.
